As a student, Tarkan was left in Istanbul without any money. To earn his living, he looked for part-time job as a salesperson and then he began to sing in bars and nightclubs. "It was terrible,- he remembers.- I was singing for people who were just eating and drinking and paid absolutely no attention to music". Anyway, it was not to last for a long time. After his friend Alpay Aydyn presented some of his records to producer Mehmet Sogutoglu, Tarkan's life changed completely, Sogutoglu was rather young. He accepted all the risks and decided to support an unknown singer. But no one of them did not expect exactly what happened. Tarkan's first album "Yine sensiz" and single "Kil oldum" made him popular in a couple days. Suddenly all the Turkey knew his name...

This success was enforced by the next album, "Olurum Sana", with the "Simarik" single, written by Tarkan and Sezen Aksu, the Turkish female pop-star. But at this time Tarkan was so popular that his life turned out to be a nightmare. Fotographers followed him everywhere, his private life suddenly became everybody's concern. He was criticized a lot for hiring a bodyguard, his performance seemed a challenge to concervative people; his unwillingness to answer the curious questions was thought to be avowal of guilt...

The "Aacayipsin" album was another master work, with the main single "Sikidim"by Sezen Aksu. Shortly after it was released, Tarkan left Turkey for USA. He was happy to be lost in New York, with nobody knowing him, and began his college studies. At the same time, with the help of producer Ahmet Ertegun, he was preparing to the next step, to a world tour. It was of a tremendous success. Tarkan made sing in Turkish such different countries as Russia, Germany, France, Belgium, Denmark, Japan, Australia... The "Tarkan" album, composed from his previous ones, was to become platinum and led him to a milestown - to being awarded at"World Music Awards" in Monaco.

Tarkan's decision to start his military service was considered the end of his career. But he returned - and conquered Latin America! The biggest surprise was his song getting on the first place in the charts of Puerto Rico, Ricky Martin's native country.

In summer 2001 Tarkan decided to try new roles. First assignment took him to Paris, where he participated in haute couture pageant. Then he signed with Pepsi, joining a big group of american pop-stars.

Finally, in August 2001, a brand new Turkish album Karma was released. It includes 12 stunning songs - in Turkish... Probably, after it Tarkan will work on an English album. Or, may be, he will decide to become a movie star-who knows?...
